American Idealist: The Story of Sargent Shriver

“American Idealist tells the story of an authentically great man, Sarge Shriver, who may have done more far-reaching and durable good than any American in the last 50 years. It’s strong medicine for those who doubt the power of the individual and the potential of government to change lives for the better. I keep copies handy for students who show the slightest sign of interest in public service.”

I saw this documentary on Oregon Public Broadcasting back in January. I was a PCV 1963-1965 to Guinea in West Africa. I now have two grown up daughters and have never been able to explain to them the spirit of that time period and why I joined and served in the Peace Corps. Your DVD is the solution to that. It is so well done. I thank you for that! I had the pleasure of meeting Sargent Shriver when I returned to work in PC/Washington. Those were good years! Thanks again.

“I can’t keep them in my office as faculty keep “borrowing” them for their classes. This video is incredible in how it inspires students to become involved in community service activities as well as educate them in our American civic engagement history. Keep them coming.”
